SONGWRITERSole co-venture with tanjola pays off for songwriter Gayle
Gayle wrote six cuts on Shiloh's upcoming album, to be released in Canada on August 18 on Universal. He also penned the majority of Massari's album on Universal Canada], slated for fall; their co-written first single from the album, "Bad Girl," has been already been released. "The past year with ole has been an amazing year of productivity and growth," Gayle says. "I've been exposed to some great new writers in Nashville and Los Angeles when I've gone on writing trips. The highlights for me are always working with artists. I've had such a blast working with Shiloh, Massari, Sy'rai, Brian Melo and a bunch a hot new artists you'll hear about soon. I'm definitely looking forward to what's next." Gayle joined Shiloh during a weeklong visit to Nashville in late May; the pair made the rounds for some intensive songwriting sessions, where they mingled with ole and non-ole writers for a productive week of collaboration. It was the first such trip for both. "They had never done a Nashville writing experience where you're writing one to two songs every day," says Elizabeth Spear, ole Senior Creative Manager. "They were pretty exhausted by the end, but they had such a great time and said they'd go back any time." Among the ole writers the two collaborated with were Kelly Archer and Bruce Wallace. "It was great coming to the ole listening session because I got to hear a bunch of cool music that other artists are doing and I also got to play the staff my new stuff," Shiloh says. "This year I have traveled to all of the ole offices and it's always so inspiring. In Nashville I wrote a song called 'Why Do I' with Bruce Wallace and Rupert Gayle that I am absolutely in love with. Nashville definitely helped me expand my writing to another level. Gilles, Elizabeth and the staff there were all great." "LA is always amazing," she continues. "Sean Mulligan took me over to the ABC and Disney studios, as well as a bunch of other production companies and music supervisors, where I performed my album songs for all the staff and we had a pizza party! I'm looking forward to hearing more of my songs in TV and film." "Out of these collaborative efforts we already have one song --'Why Do I,' that has captured everyone's attention," says Gilles Godard, ole's Chief Creative Officer. "Some people would ask why Nashville for Rupert or Shiloh? At ole, it's important for us to think about how to reach further, step out of your habitual comfort zone and how to create sense of community with our writers from every genre." "Shiloh, a Universal recording artist that we manage, has received a tremendous amount of support from ole," says tanjola Managing Partner Daniel Mekinda. "They have gone above the call of a typical publisher and quickly increased her rate of success through their creative ideas and continued efforts." Adds partner Ivan Berry: "I have been managing Rupert Gayle for 20-plus years and, together with Rupert, we were very excited to welcome him into the ole family. ole is a true home for world-class songwriters and they have quickly proven themselves as a very desirable music publisher to be working with." |
