SONGWRITERSDavid Kopatz Produces for SYCO in Europe
In Copenhagen, Kopatz produced a cover song with Irish/English pop singer Shayne Ward for Simon Cowell's Syco Music/SonyBMG Music Entertainment record label. Ward was winner of the second series of The X-Factor in the U.K. in 2005. His subsequent single, "That's My Goal," was the 8th biggest seller of the Noughties in Britain. During his time in Copenhagen, Kopatz completed a mix on the Ward song with collaborator and noted producer, songwriter and remixer, Mich "Cutfather" Hansen (Christina Aguilera, Jordin Sparks, Pussycat Dolls, Pixie Lott.) While in Denmark, Kopatz also co-wrote songs for singer Joe McElderry, another Syco signing, who was the 6th series winner of The X Factor in 2009. The next stop was Hamburg, Germany where he worked with producer Achille Fonkam at his "Boom Tschak" studio as well as with local hip-hop/soul/reggae singer Afiba and multi-talented songwriter, Rike Boomgaarden. Then it was on to London to collaborate with recording artist, Jody Lei, with whom he wrote for two days with the focus on songs for the hit U.K.group, Girls Aloud. Kopatz also took a number of top level meetings with A&R executives including Jordan Jay, A&R at Polydor/Geffen Records (Girls Aloud, The Saturdays); John Saunderson, A&R at Notting Hill Music Publishing; Elias Christidis, Kylie Mynogue's A&R Director at EMI and Jo Charrington, Epic U.K. head of A&R, who represents the group JLS, The X Factor 2008 runners-up, and Lemar, two-time Brit Award winner in the category of "Best Urban Act." Since being back in L.A., Kopatz has been involved in a number of collaborative writing sessions spearheaded by Max Gousse, Senior VP of A&R at Island/Def Jam Music Group in L.A., who is looking for material for the next album by youthful pop/R&B singer Justin Bieber. Kopatz has been writing with producer/singer/songwriter and recording and mix engineer, Alex Teamer (aka ATEAM), singer/songwriter Tony Vennie (aka Tony V.), former Transister vocalist/songwriter Keeley Hawkes and Sam Hook, a top-line writer, producer and emerging artist, who's affiliated with chart-topping singer/songwriter/producer and actor Ne-Yo (nee Shaffer Chimere Smith) and his Compound Entertainment company. ole and Kopatz are still riding high on the success of the song "S.O.S. (Let the Music Play)," the second single from Battlefield, the sophomore album by pop/R&B recording artist Jordin Sparks, winner of the sixth season of American Idol in May of 2007. Kopatz co-wrote and co-produced the track, which the New York Post called "techno-summer perfection," with Cutfather, among others. The song was Sparks' first number one single on a U.S. chart as it topped the Billboard Dance/Club Play chart last December. The song was widely heard on TV in both the U.S. and U.K. in the fall of last year as Sparks performed it on the VH-1 Divas special and on the Paul Grady talk show and the National Lottery Show in the U.K. |
