Angela Fex, Senior Account Manager, Administration

When Angela Fex arrived at ole from the Canadian Musical Reproduction Rights Agency (CMRRA) in October of 2009, she was immediately struck by the company's penchant for growth in tough times and the scope of their day-to-day business. "I know it raised my game quite a bit because we deal with a wide range of rights and get income from around the world," notes Angela, whose focus is on ole's catalog and futures, including song registrations, royalties, variances and sub-publishing relationships. "My work at CMRRA was limited to the Canadian territory, even though we dealt with some U.S. publishers. Working at ole has broadened my horizons and put me on a world-scale map."

Angela is a graduate in Recording Engineering from London's Fanshawe College, a school which offered two music programs at the time: Production and Engineering. "My passion has always been in the areas of songwriting and publishing, so I decided on Engineering as a more DIY approach to songwriting and demoing," she explains.

Angela was hired on at CMRRA shortly after graduating from Fanshawe and worked in Independent Licensing, which encompassed independent releases from both the French and English-speaking markets. It was a unique working experience. "Over the years, I have worked extensively with the Quйbec labels, which is a world of its own and a rather self-contained market," notes Angela, who is bilingual in French and English with a smattering of Spanish on the side.

Angela, at the time Manager of Tariff Licensing at CMRRA, was promoted to CSI, the co-venture between CMRRA and SODRAC responsible for the collection and distribution of various incomes, including copyrighted music on the Internet. Her role was to liaise between SODRAC, a mainly French-speaking organization, and CMRRA, to set up the day-to-day administration of the new entity, CSI.

When the opportunity arose to join ole, there were a number of factors – besides the fact that she had worked at the CMRRA with ole's Jennifer Beavis and Stephen FitzGerald – that made it an ideal fit. "The fact that I am bilingual, along with my combined 12 years' licensing and administration experience with CMRRA and CSI, meant I could undertake a new challenge. That made it a welcome opportunity for me."

Angela is a graduate of Ivy Tech (Indiana) in Graphic Design, a vocation she has not pursued to date. "It is a creative outlet that I enjoy and would likely do on a freelance basis in the years to come," she says.
