ACQUISITONS

ole Signs Talented Writer/Musician, Charlie Worsham

A native of Grenada, Mississippi, such were Worsham's early musical abilities that by the time he was 10, he was playing banjo with bluegrass legend Jimmy Martin at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. Two years later, he played the Grand Ole Opry with Opry member Mike Snider. He headed for Boston in 2004 to study at the Berklee College of Music, as he continued to develop as a musician, vocalist and songwriter. In 2006, Worsham was the recipient of the Billboard Endowed Scholarship presented each year to the most promising student at Berklee. Worsham would join the group Kingbilly during this period and moved to Nashville in September 2006. He made an amicable split with the group three years later to pursue a solo career at about the same time he met Arthur Buenahora, who was shortly to join ole as Senior Creative Director. Worsham's ole signing is, in part, a result of that meeting and Buenahora's high regard for the work of the young songwriter and musician.

"I'm really excited to be part of the ole family," says Worsham. "The company has this great brand-new, doors-are-wide-open, everything's-looking-up kind of feel. I love the Nashville office. I've been a big fan of Bruce Wallace for a long time. I didn't know he was an ole writer. One day, I walked into the office and there he is and I'm thinking, ‘Are you kiddin' me?!' Now I have the best excuse to gurm this guy and write with him. Gilles [Godard] is one of the most optimistic and kindest people I have ever met and he made me feel at home from the minute I met him. Shane [Barrett] is just an awesome person too. I really trust being in ole's hands and I feel that everything has happened to this point for the purpose of this relationship."
