LAST GANGole/Last Gang Publishing Take Proactive Approach With Creative Writing SessionsAs part of an on-going initiative to have ole and Last Gang Publishing writers and artists collaborate more frequently in creative writing sessions, Kinnie Star recently spent a day at ole's Toronto office with ole writer Coco Love Alcorn. The worthwhile get-together resulted in two songs, one of which is now being mixed and mastered. In a similar proactive vein, Last Gang artist Mark Sultan has taken on re-records of some songs from ole's MGM catalog to give the compositions a modern reading as they reflect his musical approach which runs the gamut of rock era styles. Among the pieces under consideration are "Love Is Nothin' But A Racket" (Betty Comden/Adolph Green/Andre Previn) from the '50s, "The Cincinnati Kid Theme" (Dorsca Cochran/Lalo Schifrin) and "It's A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World Theme" (Ernest Gold) from the '60s and "Love Is A Four-Letter Word" (Roy Budd/Jack Fishman) from the '70s. ole/Last Gang's close musical relationship with the Canadian TV series Shattered, which has its world broadcast premiere on Showcase on September 1 at 9:00 pm, continues as the song "Burn Down the Disco" from Let's Go To War finds a place on the soundtrack of this quirky show, which has as its main character a detective who suffers from Multiple Personality Disorder after being traumatized by the murder of his family. Main role is played by actor Callum Keith Rennie (Californication, 24). Previous placements in the series include "Blue Light" (Silver Starling), "Lady Bones" (Magneta Lane) and "Sleep Awake" (Mother Mother). Oshawa, Ontario-based power trio Hollowick, formerly known as Rides Again, previous winners in the category of Best New Rock Group at the Canadian Radio Music Awards, have their first single/video "Time Bomb" at radio/TV across the country and at iTunes. Written by the group's Nathan Peyton (ole/Last Gang Publishing), it's the lead track from their upcoming album for Aquarius Records. Other notable tracks include "King of the World" and "Gimmie Gimmie". |
