ole songwriter Marty Dodson was recently honoured by BMI as his song "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven," the Kenny Chesney hit single he co-wrote with Jim Collins, surpassed the one-million performances mark. Dodson has also been responsible for other chart-toppers by artists like George Strait, Rascal Flatts, Bill Currington, Craig Morgan and Billy Ray Cyrus. Though the CMA Music Festival in Nashville, held in mid-June, is primarily a fan-driven event, this year ole had much to celebrate in the wake of a number of cuts by ole writers recorded by some of the country music's top artists including Rascal Flatts, Billy Currington and Josh Turner/Randy Travis. Rascal Flatts have recorded the songs, "Why Wait" and "They Try" both written by Jimmy Yeary, one of ole's legacy writers through the company's recent Blacktop catalog acquisition, Tom Shapiro and Neil Thrasher. According to ole's Nashville-based Chief Creative Officer, Gilles Godard, ole was there front stage center on the Friday night celebrating their cut with Josh Turner and Randy Travis as a duet on the Roger Springer/Tim Menzies co-write "T.I.M.E" as well as the Billy Currington recording of the Marty Dodson song "Let Me Down Easy" for his new project. "Actually the Music Fest also gives us a reason to connect once again with artists, managers, A&R, label executives, writers and the fans all over town in a very laid back but celebratory atmosphere," observes Godard. "This year we had record attendance as many tourists came to support this city in the aftermath of our worst flood ever. LP Field hosted the main stage every night with great artists such as Josh Turner, Miranda Lambert, Rascal Flatts, Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, Lady Antibellum, Kid Rock, Martina McBride, Carrie Underwood, Alan Jackson, Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton and Billy Currington." "Flash," written by ole/tanjola's Dru with Chad Richardson and Craig McConnell, is the title track and first single/video from Epic/Sony Music Japan artist Crystal Kay's second mini-album which was released in Japan in mid-June. The song was also featured in commercials for Canon IXY Digital cameras. Kay, who has serious aspirations to break into the North American market and has recorded with legendary producers Jam & Lewis in L.A., celebrated her first ten years in the music business recently with the release of her first concert DVD titled Crystal Kay Live in NHK Hall: 10th Anniversary Tour CK10. |
