ole ‘To the Topline’ Challenge In Association With PenUp Crowns First Winner Of Single-Song Publishing Deal
In the wake of the enthusiastically-greeted U.S. debut of ole’s Hitsville event at NSAI’s Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival in Nashville, ole has joined forces with the prestigious PenUp Songwriter Network in L.A. to introduce the ole “To the Topline” Challenge to the next wave of talented young pop/urban songwriters and producers. SONGWRITER ACTIVITYole Administrates Songs On Diamond Rio Grammy-Winning Album The Reason For Diamond Rio, their album The Reason, for which ole administrates their co-writes on this record, has produced a number of firsts not the least of which is their first Grammy win after having received 14 nominations over the years. ole Writer Matt Nolen Contributes to Eric Paslay EMI Debut Album Versatile ole writer Matt Nolen has two songs on the eagerly-awaited debut album by EMI Records Nashville artist Eric Paslay: “Keep On Fallin’” and “All or Nothing,” a co-write with Paslay and Skip Black. The album is scheduled for a fall 2011 release but Paslay should have a single at radio by the end of the summer. Randy Travis cuts Roger Springer song "T.I.M.E." as a duet with Josh Turner The long-awaited duet album from Randy Travis celebrating the 25th anniversary of his career is due out on June 7, 2011 with a star-studded line-up of guest performers and a song from the ole catalog that has been in demand from the moment it was created. "T.I.M.E.," written by ole's Roger Springer and co-writer Tim Menzie, is set to be heard as a duet with Josh Turner with whom Travis has toured extensively in the past. The Warner Bros. Records release, Anniversary Celebration, will also include guests Zac Brown Band, Kenny Chesney, Don Henley, Alan Jackson, Jamey Johnson, George Jones, Kris Kristofferson, Tim McGraw, Willie Nelson, Brad Paisley, Carrie Underwood and Kristin Chenoweth. ole Writer Ryan Tyndell Has Two Cuts on Upcoming Eric Church Album Including Key Song ‘Springsteen’ Songwriter Ryan Tyndell, who is just approaching his second year with ole, has two cuts on Eric Church’s next album including “Springsteen” and “Keep on Looking.” Interestingly enough, “Springsteen” was written last November when ole rented a bus for the weekend for his use as an on-the-road writer’s studio as the idea for the ole bus, which is today a reality, was being discussed. Tyndell has also been somewhat of the core writer with Charlie Worsham on Worsham’s upcoming album, which it is hoped will be released to coincide with his tour dates with Taylor Swift in September. Tyndell and Worsham had been writing together prior to signing with ole and that has developed into a promising collaboration. ole Writer Chris Wallin Loud and ‘Proud’ With Montgomery Gentry, Trace Adkins ole Writer Chris Wallin is feeling the love for his song “Just Proud To Be Here,” which has not only been recorded by Mongomery Gentry but is also one of two cuts from Wallin on the new Trace Adkins album. The other song is a co-write with ole/Roots Three writer Bruce Wallace titled “Damn You Bubba.” “Bubba” is coincidentally the nickname of Adkins’ younger brother and word is that they are planning a video which will feature a guest appearance by “Bubba” Adkins. ole-Affiliated Writer Jimmy Yeary Back On the Charts With Heidi Newfield Single ole-affiliated writer Jimmy Yeary continues to hold a hot hand. After getting his first number one song with the Rascal Flatts single “Why Wait” earlier this year, Heidi Newfield has begun her chart-climb with the Yeary co-write “Stay Up Late.” The Curb Records single, co-written by Sonya Isaacs and Ben Hayslip, is in Top 50 territory on the Billboard chart after just a couple of weeks of release. Yeary had previously followed up the chart-topping success of “Why Wait” with the Martina McBride cut “I’m Gonna Love You Through It,” also a co-write with Sonya Isaacs and Ben Hayslip, which is on her upcoming album. ole’s Monty Powell Has Two More Cuts With Lady Antebellum Lady Antebellum has cut two Monty Powell songs: “You Just Never Knew” and “As You Turn Away” for their upcoming third album which, according to Charles Kelley of the group, is well on its way to completion. Powell has two cuts: “Stars Tonight” and “If I Knew Then” on Lady A’s triple-platinum second album, Need You Now. Ziggy Marley Promotes Marijuanaman Graphic Novel, Anticipates Release of New Album, Wild and Free in June Five-time Grammy Award-winner Ziggy Marley, who signed a Canadian sub-publishing deal with ole late last year, has once again expanded his field of endeavor. This time the eldest son of Rita Marley and Robert Nesta “Bob” Marley, the legendary roots reggae artist, is one of a trio of creative artists who collaborated on the recently-released hardcover graphic novel titled Marijuanaman from Image Comics. His upcoming new album Wild and Free is to be released on June 14. Toronto-based Last Gang/ole singer/songwriter Lindi Ortega played a showcase at SXSW in Austin, Texas and spent some time in Los Angeles recently as she anticipates the June 7, 2011 worldwide release of her debut album Little Red Boots on Last Gang Records. She made a number of promotional appearances including a guest spot on the Hunnypot Radio Show at The Libertine in West Hollywood and at the Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles. Ortega also did a rather entertaining interview with Michele Reverte of LAist.com during which she provided some insights into her songwriting influences and inspirations and talked about the evolution of her music. Topping the news from Roots Three/ole this month is the Canadian chart success of singles from Emerson Drive and Gomie as well as the current release of the Tara Oram single & video titled “1929” from her forthcoming sophomore album, Revival, which is being recorded at Factory Studios in Vancouver with John Ellis (Ridley Bent, Dustin Bentall) producing. The album is scheduled for a release later this summer. The video for “1929,” a co-write of Kent Agee, Kaci Bolls and Josh Rush, was shot by Margaret Malandruccolo (Dwight Yoakam, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, Terri Clark) on Sycamore Cove Beach in California and had its debut on CMT Canada on Easter weekend following the Chevrolet Cross Canada Countdown, which Oram co-hosted with CMT’s Casey Clarke.
