5 Alarm Music’s Carew Named Composer Fellow for 2018 Sundance Institute Film Music and Sound Design Lab
BURBANK, CA – Today, July 11, 5 Alarm Music, is pleased to announce that Music Director / Composer / Producer, Christy Carew, has been selected as a Composer Fellow by the Sundance Institute and Skywalker Sound for the prestigious 2018 Sundance Institute Film Music and Sound Design Lab. The Lab, which runs from July 10 to 23 at the legendary Skywalker Sound Facilities, will bring together composers, directors and sound engineers to collaborate and develop music and sound for fiction and nonfiction film projects.

Carew, who has been with 5 Alarm Music for six years, has numerous film and TV credits to her career, most notably main titles themes for Secrets of the Earth and Deep Time History, as well as original music featured in: The Blacklist, Mr. Mercedes, Supernatural, The Player, Arrow, The Long Road Home, The Big Bang Theory, and the powerful short form documentary about infertility, The Empty Womb. As a concert music composer, she was a semi-finalist in 2013 for the Sorel Medallion Choral Composition Contest and has had her work premiered by the Reno Pops Orchestra.

As part of the Lab, Carew will be paired with up-and-coming filmmaker Daniel Hymanson from the Sundance Institute Director’s Lab, and sound designer Tom Myers of Lucasfilm, with whom she’ll be scoring scenes from the feature documentary Queen of the Battling Butterfly Brigade, culminating in an live chamber orchestra recording of the team’s original score on the legendary main stage of Skywalker Sound.
